Indie Horror News: The Thing On the Doorstep

THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP is a contemporary adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s classic story of the same name.  It is a collaboration of The Creatives: written by Mary Jane Hansen, produced and scored by Will Severin, directed and edited by Tom Gliserman.

Though the film is brought forward in time the trio have tried to maintain a classic literary style in the was the story is told.  Unreliable narrator Daniel Upton has killed his best friend Edward Derby and tries to explain that even so he is not a murderer.

The official synopsis:

“It is true that I have just sent six bullets through the head of my best friend,
and yet I hope to show by this statement that I am not his murderer.”

Daniel Upton’s relationship with his friend Edward Derby is abruptly
changed after Edward becomes romantically involved with Asenath
Waite, a hypnotist with an odd reputation. As Edward’s behavior
becomes more erratic and events unexplainable, Daniel investigates.
Is it madness…or something far more terrifying?

If the trailer is any indication THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP is moody, atmospheric and emphasizes the Lovecraftian themes of paranoia and fear of the other.  You can follow the film on Facebook or the official website.
